Making the Most of This Summer

Summer is right around the corner! A whole year of Zoom school was quite exhausting, so I am definitely looking forward to the rest and relaxation that summer brings—though I also hope to accomplish a few things. Here are my plans for the summer that might give you some ideas for how to spend yours:

  1. Summer Internship. I am about to enter my last year of college, so I found a remote summer internship writing software documentation, which I’ve never done before. Besides occupying my time and earning some money, I’m hoping this internship will give me a better idea of what I would like to do professionally after graduating. Maybe there’s something you can do this summer to help you figure out what you’d like to do in the future.
  2. Finish my novel. As a creative writer, I’m always writing something. This particular novel has been in the works for a few years now, and I’ve recently made a lot of progress. I would be so thrilled if I could finally finish a draft by the end of the summer. What about you—do you have a long-term passion project you’ve been working on? Dedicate some time to it this summer!
  3. Hang out with my friends. Now that most of us are vaccinated, I am so excited to spend time with my friends! I encourage you all to do the same (as long as you do so safely).
  4. Cook. My family and I have spent a lot of this quarantine cooking together and trying new recipes. I’d love to continue that throughout this summer, especially since I’ll be heading back to college in the fall. It would be nice to have some more go-to meals under my belt besides pasta and quesadillas. If you’re a food lover but don’t often cook, try it out this summer! You might like it.
  5. Relaxing. If there’s anything this pandemic has taught me, it’s that you cannot take relaxation for granted. I used to push myself so hard and crash when I finally had time to rest, which isn’t very productive or healthy. I’m learning to give myself a break more often than I used to and recognize when I need to step back. I’m hoping to practice that more this summer so I can carry it with me once school resumes.

I hope this article gave you some ideas for how to spend your summer. Soon enough, hopefully, things will be back to normal, and we can resume all the activities we used to love. Whatever you do, just remember that the pandemic isn’t over yet. Stay safe, but have fun.
