Living in a Digital Age of Opportunity

In this day and age, technology makes making a name for yourself in the world easier than ever before. Whether you’re seeking success in business, the arts, or any other industry, it can take just one video or post going viral for your career to be kickstarted. I personally aspire to have a career in fashion, and know that the internet is a great medium to launch one–but the internet can also be hard to take advantage of unless you know how to get your name out there. There are plenty of ways for you to create a platform for yourself on the World Wide Web, including designing a website, writing a blog, making a LinkedIn account, creating a business account on Instagram, becoming an influencer on the Like to Know it app, or simply posting original pictures on Pinterest. But websites are the building blocks of a career.

Whether you want to build the foundation of your career, sell a homemade product, share your photography, or simply talk about your life online, a website is a great place to start. I use SquareSpace for my blog and highly recommend it. They have many different layouts to choose from, and they make it easy to create a domain. They have a free two-week trial, but after that SquareSpace costs $12 – $40 a month. My friend recently told me that he created his website using GoDaddy for the domain and Wix for the building and hosting of it. Although I personally have not tried this method, he confirms that it worked out well for him.

We live in a uniquely technological age, where it seems that everyone is either a famous YouTube or viral singer, and it can be easy to constantly compare yourself to others online. Just remember that you have your own gifts and talents–qualities that are unique to you! Technology should be used to cultivate your aspirations, not to put down your own talents by comparing yourself to others. Do what you love, and remember that you’re the only person capable of gifting your unique talents and personality to the world!
