Let’s Get to Work!

While we are all in quarantine, there are still ways you can prepare for your career and internships from the comfort of your home! It is extremely convenient since you can access everything through the Internet and get a head start now.

I’m sure we’ve all heard by now the importance of having an updated LinkedIn and resume. You can take about 10-15 minutes to update any positions or accomplishments that you would like people to know about on your LinkedIn, and you can copy and paste these straight from your resume. An important thing to remember is: updating your LinkedIn and resume doesn’t have to be boring. If you want to get more creative, you can design your resume or your own header for LinkedIn through platforms such as Canva and Illustrator. This allows you to include graphics or personal touches that create an image of how you want to present yourself to employers. There are also a ton of free resume templates online that you can use to make your resume more colorful and stand out from standard resumes.

As for internships, a lot of companies are offering remote ones for this summer and they’re great to look into if you are interested. You can find opportunities on websites like LinkedIn, Handshake, or Indeed. While you are thinking of possible career options, you can research and make a list of different positions or companies you’re interested in. If you want to know what these people do in their positions or what they did to get to that position, you can reach out and ask to do a virtual informational interview with them. This is like a reverse interview, where you are the one asking people from companies about their jobs and you get to learn more about what they do and see if that interests you.

I hope that these tips helped, and I wish you the best of luck on preparing for your career!
