As someone who is part of the LGBTQ community, it is hard to find queer representation in a lot of things, especially accurate representation. Although society is getting better about being inclusive of the LGBTQ community, it is still a struggle. As a writer, I have been trying to find a space for queer literature, and I finally found it: Lambda Literary.

Lambda is a nonprofit organization that champions and supports lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) literature and authors. They preserve LGBTQ culture through their recognition, promotion, and celebration of LGBTQ literature, reaching many writers and readers around the United States. On their website, Lambda Literary states that their mission includes nurturing and advocating for LGBTQ writers, “elevating the impact of their words to create community, preserve our legacies, and affirm the value of our stories and our lives.”

The organization hosts many events and programs in order to carry out their mission, including the Lambda Literary Awards (called the Lammys), Writers Retreat for Emerging LGBTQ Voices, LGBTQ Writers in School Program, Lambda Book report, and more. The nonprofit also has a ton of online resources for LGBTQ journals, magazines, organizations, reviews on books, and more. Lambda seems to be a very proactive organization and a wonderful community for LGBTQ literature.

If you’re looking for a space or even just to learn more about LGBTQ literature, Lambda Literary is the place to go.
