Journaling and Writing

Since quarantine started, I have learned the importance of expressing my feelings and not holding everything in. I personally don’t like talking to others about how I am feeling, so I had to find other ways to let my feelings out. I realized that journaling and writing are very effective and fun ways to express myself and my emotions while being creative.

Last year I started journaling, but I realized that just writing my feelings out was not effective for me. However, I have many friends who love to journal, so it depends on each individual and how they like to express themselves. I prefer writing fictional stories with characters going through similar things as I am. I find this a great way to not only let myself be creative, but also to think about the things I am going through instead of bottling it all up inside. For instance, I have created my own fantasy world with magic powers and amazing characters based on people I know in real life. I make the characters go through issues similar to what I am going through but change it enough to fit their fantasy world. I was stressed about a big exam the other day, so I made one of my characters go on a dangerous task with terrible consequences if they couldn’t complete it. Although it is not the same thing as a difficult test, writing about the character enduring the task and dealing with their stress made me feel a lot better about my reality.

I recommend everyone to try journaling or writing. It might not be for you, but I think that it is a wonderful way to express your feelings and be creative. It is also a great way to spend time and allow yourself to relax.
