How Nordstrom Stands Out in its Commitment to the LGBTQ+ Community

Pride Month is upon us again, and you know what that means. Expect to see a flurry of rainbows scattered across brand logos and merchandise. This happens every year. We all know how temporary it is. The rainbows pop up June 1st and disappear July 1st.

It’s tricky for brands to appear genuine when so many of them are merely using this month as an opportunity to boast diversity in hopes of attracting more customers. With so many brands hopping on the inclusivity train as if pride is a trend, it’s difficult to know which ones to trust. The flurry of rainbows are significant to Pride Month, but it’s important that a brand does more than just that.

Nordstrom is one such brand that has made genuine efforts towards the LGBTQ+ community by consistently speaking out, acting in support of diversity, and giving back to the community.

According to the company’s website, Nordstrom has donated “millions of dollars to hundreds of nonprofit organizations across the U.S. and Canada.” It is also stated that approximately $12 million has been spread over 600 organizations, including those that provide vital resources to the LGBTQ+ community, such as Jeffrey Fashion Cares, the GLBT Community Center of Colorado, and the Aqua Foundation for Women.

While Nordstrom is proactive all year round, during Pride Month, it is also “support[ing] Pride festivals and activities across the U.S. and Canada, as well as provid[ing] $100,000 in grants to LGBTQ youth service organizations.” Their site lists several LGBTQ+ organizations with descriptions of how their grants are being used and helpful links for more information.

Nordstrom has partnered with the nonprofit Trans Lifeline, which supports and is run by members of the transgender community. 10% of Nordstrom’s net sales will go to Trans Lifeline, and a $100,000 corporate grant will go towards the Trans X FOLX Hormone Replacement Therapy Care fund.

In addition to Nordstrom’s own donations, they have also curated a collection of LGBTQ+ brands. Brands like Wildfang, MANTL, the Phluid Project, Leeway Home, and more have designated sections where customers can read about them, their founders, and what they stand for.

Customers shopping at Nordstrom can contribute to the LGBTQ+ community in a stylish, yet positive way through the purchases they make.
