House of the Dragon

The highly anticipated Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, has finally reached its conclusion. The final episode of the season aired this past Sunday on HBO, and as usual, it was jaw-dropping. As sad as it is to wait for the next season, I was pleased with how this one turned out. Following the original Game of Thrones, I feel that many fans worried the show could not live up to its predecessor. Thankfully, it did. I was also pleased to see that the show could be enjoyed by all, not just Game of Thrones fanatics.

For those unfamiliar with the fantasy world, House of the Dragon is set roughly 200 years prior to the events depicted in Game of Thrones and follows the reign of House Targaryen as they battle to control the Iron Throne. The series based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood stars Paddy Considine as King Viserys, Olivia Cook as Alicent, Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra, Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys, and my personal favorite, Matt Smith as Prince Daemon.

When Game of Thrones initially came out, I had no interest in it. I heard everyone talking about it and making references only viewers would understand. The series didn’t seem to pique my interest. After much persuasion, I gave it a chance and immediately became obsessed with the storyline and characters. I binged all eight seasons as quickly as I could. The same subsequently occurred with House of the Dragon. Needless to say, I am excited for the release of season 2 of the dramatic series.
Unfortunately, fans of House of the Dragon will have to do some serious waiting. HBO chief content officer Casey Bloys has confirmed that the release date of season 2 will be sometime in 2024 due to a lot of unknowns in their current plans. Even so, many are still excited for the release of the next season, myself included. If you have not already given House of the Dragon a watch, I highly recommend you do.
