Collaborations between activewear and luxury fashion seem to be a trend in 2023’s Spring/Summer collections, combining athleticism with the prestige of a luxury brand name.
Miu Miu and New Balance first paired up in Spring/Summer 2022, and the continuation of this unlikely partnership has resulted in a range of new sneakers coming just in time for summer 2023. The collaboration may seem strange, but Miu Miu states that in reinterpreting such a classic athletic shoe in their own style, it fits right in with their goal of “rebellious luxury.”
This merging of two separate aesthetics has culminated in a redesign of the classic New Balance 574 silhouette in three new colorways: fringed blue denim, marble-effect cognac denim, and a white vintage-look napa leather. These new styles join last year’s simpler white and tan denim colorways to create a five piece collection in total.
The shoes feature both the Miu Miu and New Balance logos on the tongue, with the neutral colors and distressed edges meant to represent the luxury brand’s aesthetic codes, as well as “emphasising construction through deconstruction.”
The denim colorways come with a hefty pricetag of $928.96 and the leather pair sits at $1016.36, showing that although they may take the form of athleticwear, they are most definitely still luxurious.
