Bermudas: you either love them or you hate them. No matter your opinion on the long shorts (how paradoxical), there’s no denying they’re back in style this summer. Luckily, if you want to keep up with the trend, styling them is quite simple.

Bermuda shorts aren’t just a popular fashion trend from the 90s and 2000s. They’ve been around since the early 1900s after British military officers cut their pants to keep their legs cooler in the sweltering tropical British colonies. The trend found its way to Bermuda, where the shorts first got their name, according to JetSet Times. Vogue first mentioned the shorts in 1948 after Bermudas became a popular and controversial topic in the 1940s. We’re now seeing a Bermuda resurgence in 2023’s summer fashion, according to TikTok, InStyle Magazine, Byrdie, and more!

Bermuda shorts are characterized by their wide and long pant legs. Gap and Emmiol all have stylish Bermudas for more affordable prices. You can find these shorts practically anywhere during the summer, from Cotton On to Abercrombie & Fitch to Urban Outfitters. Feel free to choose your favorite denim wash!

There are many ways to style Bermudas. Since these shorts are looser, you can opt for a tighter shirt or a bra top. You could also pair them with a crop top to create a break between your midline that will elevate your outfit and keep you cool in the summer sun. Large button-up shirts go well with Bermudas, too; you can leave the shirt unbuttoned or tuck parts of it into your shorts.

Will you be partaking in the Bermuda resurgence this summer? Or should we have left these shorts in the 90s?
