Good Eats Around SoCal

Coming to a new city can be a bit intimidating but one thing that can help make it feel more familiar is the food. Personally, I’m always trying to scope out the best food options in any place I’m in, and, being new to SoCal, I’ve found a few here and there to keep an eye out for anyone in the area!

Since I’ve moved to SoCal, I honestly don’t think I’ve found an ice cream place as good as Saffron and Rose. This Persian ice cream shop not only has what I consider to be the best ice cream consistency without exaggeration, but they have some really fun flavors as well. Along with classics like vanilla and strawberry, they also have floral-themed ones such as lavender, white rose, or orange blossom. They even have flavors with dates, saffron with pistachio, and Faloodeh, falling in line with the store’s Persian roots. If you find yourself in Irvine check them out!

Bundoo Khan is a good place for anyone looking to try delicious South Asian food full of flavor and spices. When you’re in the mood for Bihari Boti, some Chicken Tikka with Garlic Naan, or a Plain Lassi drink, this is a good spot to check out if you’re in the Fullerton area.

If you’re looking for a more bougie but affordable option for a small restaurant, Moulin offers a delicious menu of French cuisine. Whether you’re there for some classic escargot, a fancy steak tartare, or a creamy soft meringue dessert, this little café will give you some good food with a lovely view of the city of Newport.

Lastly, a little café local to Irvine called Wall Writers Coffee is a great place to go for a latte, some pastries, and even kombucha! The main charm of smaller cafes compared to larger coffee chains is the community aspect and the quieter ambiance they provide to local residents. Wall Writers Coffee taps into the artsy flair that encompasses SoCal and gives people a nice place to hang out, get some work done, or just unwind after a long day with a nice cup of coffee.
