Fun with Hair

Hair is fun, but it can also be a hassle. For those of us that like to keep our hair long, it can be particularly tiring and time-consuming to style it and keep it healthy. I especially envy those of you with short hair when it’s hot out. No matter how you wear your gorgeous locks, you might find yourself running out of ideas for what to do with it or how to keep it healthy, so here are some tried-and-true tips:

  1. Trim. Even if you’re trying to grow out your hair, trimming it keeps it healthy so that it can grow longer faster. It might seem counter-intuitive, but trust me, it’s worth it in the long run.
  2. Do you have straight hair and want waves without using a curling iron all the time? Braid your hair tightly and leave it in for a few hours—the longer, the better (even overnight). When you take it out, you’ll have nice natural waves that aren’t permanent and don’t require heat that could damage your hair. Similarly, after a shower, take your wet hair and twist it around your fingers and hold it like that for a minute or so. Let it go, and tada! Natural waves.
  3. Hairspray. I don’t hear people talking about it very much, so I will! Hairspray is honestly an amazing tool to keep that hairstyle you worked on for hours in place, or even to catch the baby fluff that always gets in the way. I can’t believe it took me so long to use it. Just don’t rely on it too often, and make sure you wash your hair afterward.

Most importantly, enjoy yourself! If you want to dye your hair a wacky color or try out an intricate hairstyle or even chop it all off, go for it! Do what makes you happy. Don’t be afraid to try new things. Your hair is yours, you should feel comfortable doing whatever you want to it. Be yourself.
