Fun in the Southern California Sun

It’s almost summertime, and that means it’s almost time to hit the beach! As someone from Southern California, I am lucky enough to live in close proximity to several beautiful beaches. If you’re venturing down to SoCal or are thinking about it and want some beach recommendations, look no further!

For some good waves to surf or boogie board, La Jolla Cove in San Diego is a great spot to go to. When the sun is out, it is always packed out there with people venturing into the water and those having barbecues on the grass. The beach itself is huge and going to the cliffs during sunset is something you shouldn’t miss out on. If you want to shop or if you’re hungry and want a bite, there are a multitude of stores and restaurants right in the area that are all worth trying.

Also in San Diego is the the beach in Del Mar, a prime spot for having a nice picnic or a tanning session on the grass. The beach itself isn’t as expansive as the one in La Jolla, but there is a nice walking trail down to the water or past the railroad tracks where you can take a leisurely stroll. While La Jolla does give you the big beach vibe, I also like Del Mar because it’s smaller and feels more personal.

If you’re more up north, a favorite spot of mine is Newport Beach. The pier offers absolutely beautiful views of the water and is the perfect spot to take cute pictures. Newport doesn’t have grassy areas like Del Mar and La Jolla, so you will be sitting in the sand. Last time I went, I decided to sit underneath the pier with my friends and we had a great time enjoying the sea breeze and being so close to the water. When we were getting ready to leave, we stopped by Seaside Donuts Bakery, a well-known donut shop there. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention this spot, so if you’re headed to Newport, be sure to pop in for a donut or two!

Now that the weather is warming up and you’ve got some recommendations on great beaches, go head out for some fun in the sun!
