The COVID-19 pandemic was a difficult time for everyone. We were forced to stay indoors, and for some of us, work was put on hold, leaving us to contemplate what would be next for our future. When faced with this crossroad, Austin Durry, a 26-year-old struggling songwriter from Burnsville, Minnesota, was ready to walk away from music until a random TikTok video changed his life forever.

In 2021, Austin Durry uploaded a short clip of his unfinished song “Who’s Laughing Now?” that quickly went viral, leaving fans begging for him to release the song on streaming platforms. To take advantage of this viral whirlwind, Austin and his sister Taryn got together that night to record the full version of the song. They released the song the next morning and quickly realized they had a hit on their hands.

“Who’s Laughing Now?” is a pop-punk/alternative song that touches on the topics of letting down your parents, rejecting societal norms with your career and lifestyle, as well as being happy with who you are and the people who accept you. The song relates well to the current generation who are beginning to question traditional work culture and desire to chase their current passions rather than work a 9-5.

After 12 years in the music business, Austin Durry finally made a name for himself and his sister with their band, Durry. However, this was only the beginning for the siblings. Since 2021, the two have worked tirelessly writing and recording their Debut LP, SUBURBAN LEGEND, which will be released on September 8.

Durry is currently scheduled to tour from September through December. They will be playing shows across the country as well as Germany, London, and Amsterdam. Safe to say they have come a long way since playing in their garage in Burnsville.

If this band has proven anything, it’s that if you are struggling to hold on to hope that someday you will be able to pursue your passion and chase your dreams, just hold on a bit longer because you never know when your opportunity will present itself.
