Dorm Room Reminders

Moving into the dorms your first year of college can be a fun but hard process, and sometimes we forget the things that we did at home—or things that were done for us—to keep our places tidy. Here are some reminders to keep your dorm clean, especially during the time of the pandemic.

Wipe down common surfaces frequently as dust and bacteria build up quickly. This includes sinks, door handles, counters, desks, coffee tables, and whatever other common surfaces you have in your dorm. Before the pandemic, I would say that once or twice a week should be fine; however, I would try to clean these surfaces daily now.

Wash your bed sheets! This includes your pillowcases and duvet cover. This is a big thing that I noticed people forgot about; I would try to do them every week, but every other week should also be ok. This can prevent acne and honestly just keep you clean.

Lastly, vacuum and clean your floors weekly, especially if you are someone who sheds a lot of hair. Dirt also builds up from tracking it in on your shoes, as well as dust and crumbs.

Try to create a chore calendar for you and your roommates so that you don’t forget these reminders!
