During these stressful and uncertain times due to COVID-19, it is important to shelter in place. But staying at home doesn’t mean you can’t have fun! Here are some things you can do to make this time more enjoyable.
Reading for fun! A great way to escape during this time is to get lost in a good book. Some recommendations are: (1) The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren, which is a fun rom-com that takes place in Maui and will surely provide a much-needed escape; (2) The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, which follows a famous movie star and the unfolding of the life she led; and (3) My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante, which is about two girls growing up in Naples, Italy after World War II. Each of these books provide a different world in which to get lost, but the possibilities of books to read are endless.
Binging TV shows! Tiger King, one of the most popular Netflix shows right now, is sure to draw you in since it’s both entertaining and wild. Making the Cut is a fun, light-hearted fashion TV show where designers compete in design challenges across the globe. The classic sitcom The Office supplies some much needed comic relief during this time.
Taking walks or bike rides through your neighborhood and around town is a must. It is important to get outside every day, breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy your surroundings.
Baking! Baking is a creative activity and gives something sweet for you to enjoy. Whether you’re making a banana cake (I’d recommend checking out https://www.bhg.com/recipe/cakes/banana-cake/ for a delicious recipe) or chocolate chip cookies, preparing and eating these treats is sure to make you (and your tummy) happy.
Hopefully you can relieve some stress through any of these outlets – reading, watching TV, walking, biking, and baking. But these are just some ways you can keep busy and spend your time productively at home. You just need to be creative!
