Black Lives Matter

With the Black Lives Matter movement rising over these past few months, I am consistently proud of the amount of resources and awareness posted on social media. Before last year, I never did much research related to the inequality that Black people face, and now that I have, I am shocked and disgusted by the racism that exists in this country. However, there are many ways to help bring awareness to this issue even from your own home.

One way to support Black Lives Matter is to sign petitions. There are various petitions available to support individuals being unfairly treated due to their skin color. These petitions are free and only take a couple of minutes to fill out. Another way to support Black Lives Matter is to donate. It is important that, when donating, you determine whether the organization is valid; some organizations are known to keep the donations for themselves instead of giving the money to the Black Lives Matter movement. A few good organizations to donate to are BAJI, Color of Change, and The Movement for Black Lives. For those who can’t donate, I have come across a few youtube videos that donate money based on the amount of views the video gets. This is a simple way to donate by keeping the video playing in the background on repeat to increase the view count.

Lastly, you can support Black Lives Matter by discussing it with family and friends to raise awareness. Although it can be difficult, it is important to have these conversations and talk about how to reduce racism in your own life. For example, in many cases, some people can be racist towards others without even realizing it. For this reason, it is important to be aware of your actions and words. Overall, there are many simple ways to support Black Lives Matter.
