Asian Sweet Tooth

If you know me, you know I absolutely love sweets. In fact one day in France I ate about five pastries effortlessly; they went down like a chocolate fountain. From Krispy Kreme donuts to almond croissants, I can never get enough.

But of all the sweet things in life, my favorites are probably Taiwanese and Chinese desserts. Not only did I grow up with those pastries. but they are the perfect blend of flavor–always just a dash of sweetness. Here are some of my favorites, with recipes linked so that you can try them out yourselves!

1. Tangyuan: These are my favorite because they are both squishy and sweet! Usually they’re filled with either black sesame or peanut paste, with a doughy outer layer. Served both hot and in a soup form, these little treats are just divine anyway you eat them.

2. Egg Tarts: You can find these desserts in a couple different parts of Asia, and of course each country will have a different way of preparing them. Wherever egg tarts made, though, I’m always a big fan of the egg filling and the decadent, flaky crust.

3. Pineapple Buns: These desserts are delightfully crumbly on top with a soft, fluffy bun on the bottom. I should clarify that pineapple buns aren’t actually made of pineapple, but they do certainly look the part: with creamy yellow filling and a criss-cross pattern on top, you can find these desserts at nearly any Asian bakery.
