Many people say they’re dog or cat people, but I grew up as a fish person. I’ve always loved fish for some reason, and one of my fondest memories as a kid was when I was five years old and I won a fish from a game at the local fair. It was the first fish I ever had, and one of the few I would raise over the next seven years. Fish might not be as interactive as other pets, but they’re really cute in their own way. It’s relaxing to just watch them swim and hang out with each other if you’ve got more than one fish. They’re easy to take care of, so it’s not too much work to own a fish.
I’ve had a variety of types of fish as pets and also different fish bowls. What was fun for me was coming home every day after school to feed them, and I would clean the bowl and rearrange the little pebbles and decorations I had in there. It felt oddly satisfying to see them play with the little things I put in there for them, since it seemed like the fish enjoyed them. I stopped having pet fish in middle school and I haven’t gotten any other pets since, but my fish still hold a special place in my heart.
