A Little About Me

Hi readers!

My name is Avery, and I write for the Lifestyle and Entertainment tabs for 60 Seconds Magazine. I graduated from Chapman University this past spring with a major in creative writing and minors in Italian Studies and honors. Even though my undergraduate studies were more language-focused, my long term goal is to attend law school and pursue work in advocacy law. I’ll be spending the next year  working in my hometown in Oregon until I (hopefully) begin law school. Even though I’m already missing the California weather, the silver lining is that being home has given me lots of time to pick up some of my old hobbies, and explore a few new ones as well!

One of my older hobbies I’ve started again is running. I used to do track and cross country in high school, and luckily for me my hometown is surrounded by a ton of great running trails (my town is pretty small, so a lot of the trails have remained open during quarantine)! If I’m going for a longer run, I’ll swap music for a true crime podcast to keep me entertained; I recommend My Favorite Murder, Dirty John, and Criminal.

Something new I’ve been trying out since being home is collaging. Ironically enough, I have always struggled to keep a consistent diary because I always want to go back and edit my entries. A great alternative I’ve found is to fill a notebook with collage art made with images or text from magazines, newspapers, etc. I have never been very crafty, but for me collaging is a great way to keep a record of my life and explore a medium I don’t usually work in.
