Whether I am about to go out, singing alone in my car, or need a song to help me during a good cry, my go-to artist is Beyoncé. I genuinely never get tired of her stunning voice and am consistently finding myself turning to her time and time again.
Every avid reader has at least one book or book series they find themselves reading over and over again. Sometimes these books remind us of our childhood or mark the discovery of a new genre; sometimes they simply give us comfort in a way we can’t quite explain. This week, I’ll be talking a little bit about my “go-to” books, and what makes them so significant to me.
African Head Charge create a synthesis of experimental reggae, psychedelia, dub, and electronica. Rhythm from the drums and bongos, play into one another like percussive molecules. I went to bed each night and I put on the same album and by day thirty, I realized I couldn’t stop listening to it.
The past months since the COVID-19 outbreak have felt monotonous for the majority: wake, eat, sleep, repeat. With days blending, losing track of time has become a shared experience. Avatar: The Last Airbender is a masterclass in creating an entirely unique story set in a world full of lore and detail. The emotionally heavier elements are balanced by incredible world-building and character development, as well as genuinely funny moments and compelling subplots. I find myself turning to Avatar when I need a breather from current events because I can escape into a rich, diverse, creative world that makes me laugh and cry all at once.
Growing up, I watched Barbie movies religiously. We’re going on a road trip? Great, let me slap my scratched DVD of Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper in my portable DVD player. Since the lock-down started, my sister and I have been rewatching all of the old Barbie movies, and although I am now an adult, I still remember the magic and joy these movies provided for me all the way back in 2005.
Living in a sunny place, I have found myself eternally grateful to foundation with sunscreen inside it. My favorite one…
Sun protection is essential during these summer months, especially if you’re pale like me. Too many beach trips have become…
