Starting Anime on a Positive (Death) Note

We all grow up on different shows. Some people are Disney kids, having spent their elementary school days watching Phineas and Ferb, and others favored Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network. I was the first, so you could find me singing something from Hannah Montana or Wizards of Waverly Place. For that reason, I was never really exposed to anime until recently.

A couple of friends who are avid fans convinced me to give it a go, and as a result, I’ve been exposed to some intriguing new shows. My current watch, Death Note, can be found on Netflix and follows a young man named Light as he is presented with the power of a Shinigami, supernatural Japanese spirits with control over death. It starts off with him using a notebook to write the names of those he wishes to kill and morphs into a national hunt for what the public imagines to be a serial killer.

The combination of intellectual intrigue as the characters investigate and use genius-like logic to search for answers and the touch of the supernatural has hooked me into the story. If you are interested in crime and folklore, then you might also enjoy this show!

If you really love it, you might enjoy the 2017 adaptation that is currently on Netflix. There is another on the way, and it is set to be produced by the Duffer brothers! As a fan of the show, I have high hopes and can’t wait to see the story of Death Note come to life again!
